Dehradun

Dehradun is the capital of India's Uttarakhand state. With the capital being, it is one of the 13 districts of Uttarakhand state, whose district headquarters is in Dehradun. This city, which is rich in natural beauty, is also known for its many famous educational institutions.

Here many national institutes like the Oil and Natural Gas Commission, Survey of India, and Indian Petroleum Institute are located. There are several educational institutions like Forest Research Institute and Indian Military Academy in Dehradun.

In Dehradun city, every year are a large number of tourists come. Dehradun city is one of the fastest-growing cities in India. Dehradun, Dehra, and Doon are made up of two words. The word Dehra is considered as a Dera, when Ram Rai, son of Guru Har Rai of Sikhs, came to this area, he set up his Dera here to stay with his followers.

Even today, during the reign of Aurangzeb in the Dhamawala area, a Gurudwara is built by Guru Ram Rai. A Jhanda fair is organized every year near this Gurudwara. In Hindi, Dehra means the Devaalay. Because of this, the word dera is associated with the word doon, this place is called Dehradun.
