Neelkanth

Neelkanth is a famous place located in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand state. Neelkanth is about 30 km from Rishikesh and about 145 km away from the district headquarters Pauri Garhwal. Neelkanth is surrounded by majestic mountains from all around. This place is known for the famous ancient Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is situated on the valley of Manikoot mountain. The story of sea churning has been made in the carving out of the temple. The statue of Dwarpalas has been made at the main entrance of the temple. It is believed that the came out of sea churning, After drinking poison, Lord Shiva rested on this place for years. After drinking poison, his throat had become blue, hence the name of this place has been called Neelkanth.

The journey of Neelkanth can be done throughout the year, but the best time to visit here is between the months of October to April. Travelling here in these months is the best and enjoyable. During the winter season, the weather of here is cold. Due to snowfall on the surrounding hills in the winter season, the temperature of here goes down very much. Due to the cold weather of winter, woollen clothing is required here. Due to heavy rains in the rainy season, it is a bit difficult to travel of here because of heavy rains threatening landslides.
