Bagnath Temple is located in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand state. This is the most famous ancient temple of Kumaon area. This ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Bagnath temple is the most popular temple of Bageshwar, that is why this city was named Bageshwar. Near this temple is the confluence site of Saryu and Gomti river. By staying in this place as Lord Shiva's tiger, it was known as "Vyaghreshwar", which was later changed to Bageshwar name. This temple was built in 1450 by a Chand ruler, "Lakshmi Chand". To receive the blessings of Lord Shiva, every year every Monday of 'Shravan Maas' and during Maha Shivaratri, a large number of devotees come to the darshan in Bagnath temple.
