Pandukholi is a famous place located in Chaukhutia of Almora district. These places are situated at an altitude of about 9,000 feet above sea level. It is said that when Pandavas were exiled in the Mahabharata period, then Pandavas were staying at this place with his wife Draupadi. It is said that Pandavas had established Mahadev Shankar's Devalaya at this place, in which the idols of Lord Shiva and Pandavas are present. To develop mental peace and spirituality, this region has been a beloved place of great men. The name Pandukholi is made up of two words, "Pandu" means the father of Pandavas and "Kholi" means shelter. In Pandukholi, a saint named Mahatma Balwant Giri established the ashram. This Ashram is known as named of Balwant Giri Ashram. During the trip to Chaukhutia, tourists visit this place. The Pandukholi is one of the main centres of attraction in Chaukhutia.
The journey of Pandukholi can be done throughout the year, but the best time to visit here is between the months of October to May. Travelling here in these months is the best and enjoyable. During the winter season, the weather of here is cold. Due to snowfall on the surrounding hills in the winter season, the temperature of here goes down very much. Due to heavy rains in the rainy season, it is a bit difficult to travel of here because of heavy rains threatening landslides.
