Dunagiri Temple is a famous temple located in Dwarahat of Almora district, which is about 15 km away from Dwarahat. After Vaishno Devi, "Dunagiri" is second Vaishno Shaktipeeth in Kumaon area of Uttarakhand. This temple is dedicated to Maa Vaishno Devi. In this place, "Maa Dunagiri" is worshipped in Vaishnavi form. According to legend, It is said that in the Tretayuga, when to kill Laxman, Meghnath used 'Shakti'. Laxman fainted with the shakti, then Sushain Vaidya asked Hanuman Ji to bring Sanjivani herb from the mountain named Dronachal. Hanuman Ji was raising the entire mountain from that place, then a small piece of the mountain fell on the land and then thereafter in this place became the temple of Dunagiri. Katyuri ruler Sudhardev established a statue of Maa Durga by constructing the temple in 1318 AD. On the mountain here, Guru Dronacharya of Pandav had done penance, hence its name is Dronagiri. To darshan of this magnificent temple, there are about 500 stairs have to climb.

Due to heavy rains in the rainy season, it is a bit difficult to travel of here because of heavy rains threatening landslides.
