Budhakedar Temple is a famous ancient temple located in Ghansali of Tehri district. This ancient temple is about 26 km away from Ghansali. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
The entrances to the temple are a magnificent combination of wood and stone carving. Situated in this temple, no one has even can measure the depth of the Shivaling, but the upper height of Shivling is about 2 to 3 feet from the ground, apart from Lord Shiva, many other shapes have also been made on this Shivling.
According to the local people, Shivaling has originated in this temple itself. In this temple, Lord Shiva is sitting in his aged form. That is why this temple is known as Budhakedar. According to legend, on the Pandavas were the stigma of killing their own Kaurava brothers.
For this reason, Pandavas were suggested to worship Shiva by Maharishi Vyas for salvation. After the war of Kurukshetra, Pandavas came out to search for Lord Shiva, then on the way, they met Rishi Balakhilya on Bhrigu Mountain.
Balakhilya Rishi guided Pandavas and said that an old man is meditating near confluence, then Pandavas reached that place, the old man suddenly disappeared behind Shivling. Hence this temple has been named as Budhakedar.
This Shivling is considered the largest Shivling in northern India and this is still the imprint of Pandavas' hands.
