Sheetla Devi Temple is a famous temple situated in Haldwani of Nainital district. This holy temple is about 8 km away from Haldwani. This holy temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Maa Sheetla. It is said that behind the temple, the market of Haat was used to be in the times of the Chand kings and people used to come to buy goods far and wide. It is believed that there was the Badarkhari stronghold near the temple, which was demolished during the war by the Gorkha king. Even today here, the remains of demolished walls etc. are can be seen. It is believed that this place of Sheetla Devi is a very big tree of Banj near the travel route, under which Maa Bhagwati Umadevi rested. It is also said that Pandey people of Bhimtal were bringing a statue from Banaras to build a temple of Maa Sheetla in their village. While walking, They could not reach the temple of Maa Sheetla till evening and they rested at Gulabghati of Ranibagh. At night a person dreamed of setting up the mother at this place and that person told his companions about the dream, they did not believe, they started raising the idol, but could not lift, then those people have come of believe. Then Pandey people established the idol at that place. Since then, Pandey people come to worship the temple.
