Kharsali is a small village located near Janki Chatti in Uttarkashi district. This village is situated at an altitude of about 2676 meters above sea level. Kharsali village is considered to be the residence place of Goddess Yamuna. During the winter season, due to snowfall the gates of Yamunotri are closed. At that time the idol of Goddess Yamuna is brought to this village. Goddess Yamuna is worshipped at this place for 6 months during the winter season. There is also the oldest temple of Shani Dev in this village. The idol of Goddess Yamuna is kept goes in this temple of Shani Dev. This temple is a three storey structure made of stones and wood. It is believed that this temple was built by the Pandavas. Devotees come to this village for the darshan of Goddess Yamuna during winter season.
