Kalpeshwar Temple is a famous temple located in the Urgam Valley near Joshimath of Chamoli district. This temple is situated at an elevation of about 2135 meters from the sea level. In this temple, Lord Shiva's "Jata" (tanglesome hair ) is worshipped. This temple is also known as Anadinath Kalpeshwar Mahadev. There is a 'Kalevar Kund' near the temple, whose water is always clean. Here the saint uses this holy water to give adorable to Lord Shiva. The priest of Kalpeshwar Temple is the Nambudi Brahman of South India. It is said about these priests that, this priest is the disciple of Adi Guru Shankaracharya. According to Shiva Purana, Rishi Durvasa had performed austerity at this place under the Kalpavriksha and since then this place began to be called "Kalpeshwar" and it is also mentioned in the Puranas. Kalpeshwar Temple is located in Kalpganga. The land on the right side of the coast is called the Durvasa Land. Kalpeshwar Temple is one of the holy places of Joshimath.
