Narsingh Temple is a famous temple located in Joshimath of Chamoli district. This famous temple is dedicated to Lord Narsingh, which was the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Due to being one of the Sapt Badri, this temple is also called Narsingh Badri. It is said about this temple that Adi Guru Shankaracharya himself had established Shaligram of Lord Narsingh at this place. The idol of God Narsingh, built in the temple is made of Shaligram stone. This idol was built during the reign of King Lalitaditya Yukka Pida of Kashmir in the eighth century and some believe that the idol itself appeared. In the temple complex, idols of Lord Rama, Mata Sita, Hanuman Ji and Garuda are installed on the right side of Lord Narsingh and the statue of Mata Chandika is installed on the left side. According to legend, Lord Vishnu took the incarnation of Lord Narsingh to protect his devotee Prahlad and kill the demon Hiranyakashyap.
