Lakshmi Ashram is a popular ashram located in Kausani of Bageshwar district. This ashram is also known as named of Sarla Ashram. Katherine Hillman, a follower of Mahatma Gandhi, built this ashram in the year 1948. She was a great fan of Gandhiji. In the year 1931, she left London and came to India and joined Mahatma Gandhi's independence movement. Katherine Hillman later changed her name to Sarlaben in the year 1964. In this ashram, women are taught about cooking, growing vegetables and cleaning. Not only this, many orphans girls and women also live in this ashram. The objective of the ashram is to provide the women of Kumaon area with a safe place to stay and they have to teach such skills as well, by which she could become self-reliant. Lakshmi Ashram is the main centre of attraction in Kausani.

Due to heavy rains in the rainy season, it is a bit difficult to travel of here because of heavy rains threatening landslides.
