Chorabari Tal is a beautiful natural lake situated about 3 km from Kedarnath. Chorabari Tal is also known as named of Gandhi Sarovar. Chorabari Tal is located on the mouth of the glacier named Chorabari Bamak. This is a small lake of beautiful natural crystal water. It offers spectacular views of the surrounding snowy Himalayan peaks. It is said that in 1948, after the death of Mahatma Gandhi, the ashes of his bones were immersed here, due to which the name of this tal was named Gandhi Sarovar. According to mythology, Lord Shiva gave knowledge of yoga to the Saptrshis here. The trek of this tal begins with Kedarnath. It is easy to trek through grasslands.

On reaching Kedarnath, the trek to Chorabari Tal will follow from an iron bridge on Mandakini River. The Chorabari Tal is located at a distance of 3.5 km from the iron bridge.
The best time to travel to the Chorabari Tal is between from the months of September to November and April to Jun. Travelling here in these months is the best and enjoyable. In the winter season, the journey of here is closed for 6 months. During the winter season, the weather of here is cold. Due to heavy snowfall in the winter season, the temperature of here goes down very much. Due to heavy rains in the rainy season, it is a bit difficult to travel of here because of heavy rains threatening landslides.
