Kanvashram is a famous religious place located in Kotdwar of district Pauri Garhwal. Located in the lap of Hemkoot and Manikoot Mountains, 'Kanvashram' is a historical and archaeological point of view is a very important place. It is believed that on this place was the Ashram of Kanva sage. Regarding Kanvashram, it is also believed that Chakravarti Samrat Bharat, son of Maharaja Dushyant and Shakuntala, was born in Kanvashram on the banks of the Malini river in the picturesque valleys of the Himalayas and in the confluence of Bhabar. The daughter of Vishwamitra and Maneka Apsara, who was born as a result of her love relationships, Maneka left the forest in the vicinity of Kanvashram here. Sitting in austerity, when Maharishi Kanva heard the crying of the child, so when they arrived there, they saw a beautiful newborn girl who was surrounded by Shakunt birds. Maharishi Kanva brought the child to the ashram and named him Shakuntala. One day Maharaja Dushyant saw Shakuntala, who was impressed with her sacraments and beauty and they married Shakuntala. After some time Shakuntala gave birth to a beautiful and bright child, whose name was Bharat. Kanvashram is the most prominent, which is mentioned in detail in the Puranas.
