Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple is a famous ancient temple located in Lansdowne of district Pauri Garhwal. This famous temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The name of this temple is named after Sage Kalun, who had done penance here. It is believed that Sage Kalun here had done penance almost 5000 years ago, after his penance, this place was known as named of Kaludanda. This place was considered to be the land of penance of the sages. The samadhi of many sages has been made near the temple. According to legend, on the occasion of Mahashivaratri festival, local people came to know that their cow has disappeared, after that the locals went to find their cows. Then they seeing give his cows milk on a Shivaling. After that, a temple constructed at that place. In the year 1901, the present structure of the temple constructed and besides, the Dharamsala was constructed in the temple premises. Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple is one of the main religious sites of Lansdowne.
