Benog Wildlife Sanctuary is a popular Sanctuary located in Mussoorie of Dehradun district. This sanctuary is a part of Rajaji National Park. This sanctuary is spread over an area of about 338 hectares. This sanctuary is also called the Benog Mountain Quail Sanctuary. This sanctuary is surrounded by pine, deodar and many other types of trees. It is the habitat of rare species of different types of birds. On here also many species of foreign birds like White Capped Water Redstart and Red Billed Blue Magpie are also found. In this sanctuary, Mountain Quail birds were last seen in the year 1876, now the species of this birds is considered extinct. In this sanctuary, various types of rare creatures like Himalayan Goat, Panther, Leopard, Deer and Bear are found. This sanctuary offers a spectacular view of the snowy peaks like Chaukhamba and Bandarpoonch. This is an ideal place for nature lovers and bird lovers. The quiet and secluded atmosphere here attracts tourists very much. The Benog Wildlife Sanctuary is considered one of the main tourist destinations of Mussoorie.

The journey of Benog Wildlife Sanctuary can be done throughout the year, but the best time to visit here is between the months of October to May. Travelling here in these months is the best and enjoyable. During the winter season, the weather of here is cold. Due to snowfall on the surrounding hills in the winter season, the temperature of here goes down very much. Due to heavy rains in the rainy season, it is a bit difficult to travel of here because of heavy rains.
