Kyunkaleshwar Mahadev Temple is a famous temple located in Pauri. This temple is about 2.5 km away from Pauri. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Apart from this, idols of Lord Rama, Laxman and Goddess Sita are also established in this temple. This holy place is mentioned in Kedarkhand of Skanda Purana. It is believed that on here, Yamraj (God of death ) did harsh austerity of Lord Shiva. Pleasing with their penance, Lord Shiva give Yamraj a boon and said that in Kaliyuga I will appear in secretive. My name will be Kankaleshwar, and I will provide devotion and liberation to the devotees in Kaliyuga. At present, the Kankaleshwar is known as named of Kyunkaleshwar. This temple offers a spectacular view of snowy peaks like Chaukhamba, Trishul and Nanda Devi. In this temple, there is a large number remains crowd of devotees in the festival of Shivratri.
