Rajaji National Park is a famous sanctuary located in Rishikesh. This park extends to 820.42 square area. This park is in the land area of three towns of Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh. Founded in the year 1983, this park is composed of sanctuaries named Motichur sanctuary, Chilla sanctuary and Rajaji sanctuary. Motichur Sanctuary was founded in the year 1936, Rajaji Van Vihar was founded in the year 1948 and Chilla Sanctuary was founded in the year 1977. The name of this park is named after the famous freedom fighter, "Shri Raj Gopalachari". To be counted among India's major wildlife sanctuaries, this Rajaji National Park is home to 315 species of birds and 23 species of mammals. This park is famous for Asian elephants. Asian elephant, cheetahs, bears, cobras, wild pigs, rabbits, wild cat and deer are found in this park. To roam inside the park, here are jeep safaris available in the rental. During the forest safari, tourists can enjoy the beautiful scenery of hills, valleys and rivers.
