Sonprayag is a famous place located in Rudraprayag district. Sonprayag is at an altitude of about 1830 meters from the sea level. Sonprayag is situated on the banks of the confluence of two sacred rivers Basuki and Mandakini. Due to the sacred water of two sacred rivers, this place has excessive religious significance. Sonprayag is situated on the route of Kedarnath. Sonprayag is one of the five Prayags of Uttarakhand state. Sonprayag is a Prayag because here is a confluence of two rivers, and in Hinduism, it is believed that from bathing in Prayag, liberation is attained. It is believed that by the touch of the water of Sonprayag, the first ladder of Baikunth Dham is obtained. The journey of Sonprayag can be done throughout the year, but the best time to visit here is between the months of September to November and April to Jun. Travelling here in these months is the best and enjoyable. During the winter season, the weather of here is cold. Due to snowfall on the surrounding hills in the winter season, the temperature of here goes down very much. Due to heavy rains in the rainy season, it is a bit difficult to travel of here because of heavy rains threatening landslides.
