Panchmukhi Mahadev Temple is a famous temple located in Tanakpur of Uttarakhand state. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The symbol of the Panch elements, this Shivalay is about to annihilate the sufferings of the devotees. In this temple, Lord Shiva's idol is in the form of Panchmukhi (five faces). According to the priest of the temple, the three brahmins of Souj and Dhoun village dreamed, In the dream, Lord Shiva told that he is trapped in the of Sharda's whirlpool in Boom, Kankad Ghat and they should be taken out. When the three Brahmins reached Kankad Ghat along with the villagers, they saw a Panchmukhi Shivling in that vortex. The three Brahmins took out Shivling and brought it to Tanakpur. They kept Shivling in one place for rest and then they could not raise it. Seeing this, the three Brahmins installed Shivalinga right there. Which is today famous as Panchmukhi Mahadev Temple. During the months of Shivratri and Shravan, a crowd of devotees is gathered in the temple.
